How does a Guardian Home Extension work?

Every Guardian Home Extension is fabricated off site, before being constructed with insulated roof and walls, double-glazed windows and strong, steel-reinforced structures. Fully customisable internally as well as externally, a Guardian Home Extension provides an ideal home improvement solution that quickly expands your usable living space.

Stage one: preparation

Preparation is all important for a successful Guardian Home Extension build.

First, a full on site assessment is carried out by a trained Installer, with detailed measurements taken of the space where the Guardian Home Extension will sit. These measurements are used to create bespoke plans for all elements that will make up the build. These plans are then sent for fabrication.

Whilst the Guardian Home Extension is fabricated off site, the foundation work can begin on site.

Stage two: the walls

Water-tightness is achieved with a waterproof seal around the perimeter, along with a wall plate being fixed to the house. Sealant is applied for maximum adhesion.

The prefabricated Tek panels that make up the walls of the Guardian Home Extension, are secured to the sole plates. Expanding sealant is applied to each panel join to maximise air tightness.

All Tek panels are pre-cut to the exact dimensions of the Guardian Home Extension, this means that as each wall is erected, window frames and doors can be secured in place promptly.

Stage three: the roof

The roof begins with a structural ring beam being secured to the top of the panels, followed by steel brackets along the roofline. Aluminium rafters, ridges and ball plates are fitted and the spider arms are secured, before structural weatherproof ply board is added.

A breathable waterproof membrane is laid over the ply board and secured before in place using a staple gun. Roof tiles are added to ensure total weathertightness. Optional roof window frames will also be fitted at this stage.

Finally, 40mm of insulation is installed between the rafters leaving an air gap for ventilation.

Stage four: the finishing touches

Internally, the first fix of electrical and plumbing work is now installed, along with 72mm insulated plasterboard ready for internal taping and plastering. Once plastered, the final fix of electrics can be completed.

Externally, the final stage is to apply matching brick, render or stone walls so the completed room matches the rest of the home.
