After a couple of years fabricating high quality conservatories, a trend began to emerge. 

Many conservatory owners were complaining that their conservatories were too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer, more and more customers were requesting sunrooms rather than conservatories, to make the space useable all year round. 

Keen to meet this emerging need, the team set about creating a solution.

In 1998, an initial solid roof was designed, specified and built. It was a kit form solid roof that could be easily installed onto a new build sunroom. 

As expert fabricators, the philosophy was to fabricate to the highest standard to ensure that installation was easy and trouble free.

The sunroom roof was a roaring success and customers with conservatories soon started to enquire whether a solid roof could be installed onto their conservatories as a replacement roof. 

In 1999, the first prototype solid roof was developed. As the roof is incredibly lightweight, it can be installed onto existing window frames without the need for steel supports.

Premier Dublin were the first installers of the roof in Ireland, with the first installation taking place in 2000. 

More than 20 years later, the relationship between Guardian Warm Roof and Premier Dublin is still going strong.

The growth in conservatories in the UK had been high over the past 10 years and Joe saw the opportunity to take the warm roof to the UK market. 

Approaching many of the large conservatory system houses, the team was told that the product would never work. 

Far from giving up, the team decided to approach fabricators directly to build and supply the roofs to the UK market. 

In 2008. Double R became the first UK fabricator of Guardian Warm Roof – and they’re still fabricating our roofs today!

In the same year, a partnership was agreed with Metrotile, who came on board as an exclusive supplier of lightweight, durable tiles for the solid roof. The beautiful range of colours and profiles bring the perfect finishing touch to every Guardian Warm Roof.

In 2010, Guardian Warm Roof enlisted the help of Ross Darcy to engage with fabricators and installers up and down the UK, and they quickly build a network able to service many parts of the region. 

As homeowner enquiries increased, the Guardian Warm Roof network grew to include 10 approved fabricators.

2010 also saw two more significant milestones for the business. Guardian Warm Roof celebrated receiving LABC and LABSS approval, providing added reassurance to homeowners and helping streamline the construction process. 

Whilst the business went from strength to strength, further testing and development was undertaken to continually improve Guardian Warm Roof, and a lower U-value of 0.18 W/m²K was achieved.

The fabricator and sales networks grew and by 2012, over 10,000 custom Guardian Warm Roofs had been made and installed at homes across the UK & Ireland.

By 2015, over 50,000 Guardian Warm Roofs had been installed across the UK & Ireland and the fabricator network had grown to include 20 trusted fabricators.

Just three years later, over 100,000 Guardian Warm Roofs had been installed across the UK & Ireland.

2019 saw several significant developments for Guardian Warm Roof. A team of dedicated structural engineers, software technicians and industry experts were assembled to form our Technical Centre in the North West of the UK, to further develop and enhance the Warm Roof.

 Guardian also entered into two further exclusive partnerships; firstly, with VELUX, bringing the added option of beautiful, high quality roof lights to each bespoke Guardian Warm Roof; and secondly, with Kingspan to ensure the highest quality and performance insulation products were used within our systems.

There was also an exciting expansion to the Guardian Building Systems range with the launch of the Guardian Home Extension in Ireland – a revolutionary and energy efficient home extension system that can be completed in half the time of a traditional build.

In 2021, Guardian Building Systems proudly launched the Certified Installer Network, which involves rigorous training and strict standards to adhere to. 

The Certified Installer Network enables us to offer a 10 Year Guarantee for all roofs installed by a Certified Installer, meaning more homeowners can enjoy added peace of mind.

Changes in the building regulation requirements were welcomed by Guardian Warm Roof and further development saw the roof enhanced with additional insulation to achieve an industry leading U-value of 0.15 W/m²K, verified through independent testing by The Building Research Establishment.
