Gaining building regulations approval from your local authority for your new Guardian Warm Roof is necessary and has multiple benefits for homeowners. Firstly, and unlike many other competitor systems, the Guardian Warm Roof has been rigorously checked centrally by Hertford Building Control (HBC). All of our Certified Installers are partnered with the LABC and are therefore able to submit and process the necessary building control requirements through the LABC and through your local building authority. Your Certified Installer will be able to discuss more about this process and the costs involved.
It is absolutely necessary to get building control approval and Guardian Building Systems will always support our Certified Installers and Homeowners to make this approval process as easy and painless as possible. Unfortunately there are companies in market place that are willing to ignore Building Regulations and just cover the existing glass or polycarbonate with tiles and minimal insulation within the voids of the roof. These structures are extremely dangerous and have been well documented over the past few years in cases where the structure has moved or even collapsed. In the event that you want to sell your property and you do not have building control approval, you will have to go through lengthy and costly processes to rectify this; this may result in replacing the roof again!
All Guardian Warm Roofs are made bespoke to fit your existing conservatory. The system is designed to cover all designs and sizes. Guardian Warm Roof also allows the option for VELUX roof windows or fully glazed panels such as the Guardian Solstice.
Providing the frames are fully reinforced it should not be a problem installing a Guardian Warm Roof on full height frames. A Certified Installer of the system can check that the frames are fully reinforced and advise accordingly.
The Guardian Warm Roof is a fully ventilated system with no interstitial condensation risk attached with it. We take this so seriously we have our roof independently tested and checked by theBRE. The Guardian Warm Roof passed all tests including various areas and climates across theUK.
Yes it is possible to put a log burner flue through a Guardian Warm Roof. You will need to check with the supplier of the burner regarding sealing from the outside and how far the insulation should be cut back from the the flue itself.
Yes, there are 3 key guarantees that all homeowners receive when their Guardian Warm Roof is fitted by a Certified Installer. Roof lanterns can bring an abundance of light into a specific room within a home, fitted to a flat roof structure, the design of a roof lantern allows for light to enter a room from a wide variety of angles, improving the atmosphere and perspective of space within a room. The Guardian Roof Lantern has also been expertly designed and engineered to secure, strong and thermally efficient.
Planning permission is not required specifically for a roof lantern, however it is highly likely that either planning permission or building control approval may need to be sought or any new structure being built on your private property. It is best to consult both with your builder/installer and the local authority building control.
A roof light tends to be a simple flat window light, a roof lantern can offer a more prominent and architecturally beautiful show piece to your home. Fundamentally it also allows in a greater amount of light from more angles and therefore can significantly increase the light within a room.
No roof lantern should leak and we ensure that we rigorously test this, the Guardian Roof Lantern is subjected to significant weather testing during its development to ensure that all aspects of the system are entirely waterproof.
Excellent thermal efficiency is a pre-requisite of the development of the roof lantern. By isolating the external aluminium profiles with the internal ones, we eliminate cold bridging, which causes heat loss. Furthermore high performance glazing sits within a glazing enclosure to further reduce any chances of head loss.
Our GUARD-Lock technology has been expertly designed to ensure that the Guardian Roof Lantern is exceptionally secure, with ‘click-fit’ rafters and secure glazing enclosures. It is highly resistant to any security risk or attempt.
Yes this is certainly possible with any existing flat roof structure. A professional builder will be able to assist with a thorough survey.
The Guardian Roof Lantern is made with Aluminium profiles. Aluminium not only provides the strength and security required, it is also exceptionally sustainable. Our roof lantern has also been designed with ultra-slim 12mm V profiles on the interior which allows for greater visibility – this has been made possible due to the strength of the aluminium materials which is far better than U-PVC.
The Guardian Roof Lantern can be constructed within 60 minutes. It has been designed to have as few parts as possible, not only to achieve great strength and security, but also to make it easy to construct.
All of our Roof Lanterns can be made to a bespoke size, however the maximum size lantern that can be created is 3.2m by 2m with only 4 bars. Increases in size are certainly possible with the addition of support rafters.
Standard colour options for both internal and external are Grey, Black and White. We find that a Grey external coloured combined with a White internal colour is the most popular option. However we are also able to customize a colour option as required, this option maybe subject to additional cost.
